Unseasonal frost last week damaged the potato plants of most households in major potato-growing districts across the country. For instance, hundreds of acres of potato plants in more than 500 households of Bumthang and Wangdue Phodrang suffered damages. Veterinary doctors at the National Veterinary Hospital are raising concerns about unsterilised pet dogs. Doctors say unsterilised pet dogs would lead to the repopulation of free-roaming dogs undoing the Nationwide Accelerated Dog Population and Rabies Control Programme efforts. The veterinary hospital recommends sterilisation to prevent certain pet diseases and to change pet behaviour.

The water shortage facing the residents of South Thimphu for years will soon come to an end. The Thimphu Thrompon during BCCI’s business consultation meeting held last month announced plans to address the long-standing water shortage issues in the area. The Thrompon confirmed ongoing efforts to resolve water challenges in areas such as Olakha, Babesa, Serbithang, and Debsi. While the timeline for the completion of the water project remains uncertain, Thrompon assured that comprehensive plans are in place to tackle the issue effectively.
