Meanwhile, in a powerful demonstration of global solidarity, governments, businesses, investors, and philanthropies have announced over USD 57bn across the climate agenda in just the first four days of COP28.

The work to reconstruct the Kuri-Gongri bridge is underway as business community, truckers, and travellers in the east await the launch of the modular bridge, almost six months after the bailey bridge collapsed. Currently, the realignment of the road near the bridge abutment towards the Nganglam side is in full swing. In the past, heavy vehicles faced difficulty climbing the steep road while travelling with heavy loads towards Nganglam. Without a bridge replacement, business community and truckers in the east claim that the increased cost of transportation is affecting their businesses.

The Bhutan Green Hydrogen Roadmap was launched at the Bhutan Pavilion during the 28th Conference of Parties, COP28, today. The Roadmap is part of Bhutan’s commitment to advancing the development of a green hydrogen economy to meet its energy and climate goals, and to remain carbon-neutral through 2050 and beyond. The launch was followed by a discussion on green hydrogen development opportunities in Bhutan from a commercial and marketing perspective. Green hydrogen is considered to be the cleanest and most sustainable energy source that can produce electricity, power industry, and enable transportation. It doesn’t generate any polluting emissions into the atmosphere.

More than three years on, since the Gewog Centre Road of Kangpar Gewog in Trashigang was damaged by heavy rains, the road still remains in dire condition. The poor state of the road has become dangerous for travellers, especially during the summer. Incessant rainfall in 2020 caused a landslide which damaged a portion of the GC road in Kangpar.
