Namling and Durdari Bridges in Monggar will undergo major reconstruction with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA. JICA will provide nearly Nu 870 M for the reconstruction of these two bridges. The grant agreement was signed between JICA and the Ministry of Finance today. According to the Department of Surface Support, the reconstruction will improve the connection between Trashigang and Thimphu highways, reducing travel time by four hours, from about 16 to 12 hours.

The National Pension and Provident Fund, NPPF, recently completed the 120-unit residential buildings for the Gelephu Regional Referral Hospital employees. Allotment of apartments for the hospital staff began last month. However, there are not many takers. Currently, more than 30 flats remain unoccupied. The NPPF initiated the 120-unit residential building construction in 2018 to provide quality housing to health staff upon signing a MoU with the health ministry.

To enable and empower persons living with disabilities with assistive technology, an Assistive Technology or AT Demo Centre has been opened at the Youth Development Fund Centre in Thimphu. PHENSEM- Parents Support Group, a civil society organisation, with support from the Bhutan Foundation, opened the centre today. Assistive technology includes tools and devices that help a person to do everyday chores with ease including support with hand mobility to computers reading text out loud for the visually impaired.
